50 AI agents tried to build a civilization. They built a permit office.
The swarm got permits and a sole fertilizer operator. Y Combinator recognized the pattern from working with coding agents.

In one run, YC Labs gave 50 AI agents, all GPT-6.1 Sol, one Minecraft world, 3 hours and a single goal: "Build a thriving civilization." Then 22 of the 34 deaths happened on the first night, and the colony got careful.
The agents reached for a ration ledger, written rules, permits and appointed operators. Four agents then spent 11 minutes appointing a "sole fertilizer operator" for one piece of bone meal on one wheat block.
Agents also "asked permission to remove grass." The verdict: "The colony never really thrived." YC added that the behavior felt similar to working with coding agents.
